Hi everyone. I am an ex-primary teacher who left mainstream to set up my own dyslexia business. I now feel I am ready for the next step which is to be able to assess, diagnose and teach dyscalculic learners. I look forward to developing my knowledge and understanding of dyscalculia. I am also a qualified Specialist Study Skills Tutor and am an external assessor for Exam Access Arrangements for my local college. I love how diverse learners are and spend a lot of time helping them to see that they have skills that no-one else has!

Hi, I'm Claire and teach in Berkshire, UK! I have taught for many years from Reception - Year 3/4 but this year have taken on a new role......teaching 1:1 with children from Reception to Year 4, although primarily KS1. These interventions are primarily Literacy support with some Maths, some Speech and Language and some Motor Skills. I have supported in Literacy for a few years but the rest is a steep learning curve! I am also Pastoral Lead for KS1 and oversee our ELSA and Play Therapy provision. I am counting down the days to return to real life teaching next week as I have been providing 1:1 'live' online since January whilst also being asked to take on a part time maternity cover in Year 1 for the rest of the academic year - also online 'live' at the moment! As a school I feel we have great expertise in Dyslexia but not so much expertise in Maths, and having worked with a couple of children this term felt I needed training in how to help those struggling with Maths, hence joining this course!

Since last year I have been working with primary students having maths difficulties and I am keen to learn how best to support them. Hi everyone. I'm Vicki and I currently live up in the north of Scotland (having been a Yorkshire 'lass' for many years). I've worked widely across both mainstream and special education and am currently a support for learning teacher 4.5 days a week and run my own SpLD assessment business the rest of the time. I am fascinated by how learners brains work (especially in respect to both learning and self-regulation). I work in an area of high deprivation / need and so I work with learners with a lot of difficulties with language and literacy and have studied / researched this area quite a lot. It's about time I knew a lot more about maths! It's an area in which I've only really had the usual school based CPD over the years and I would love to know more about how my learners actually learn maths, the process they go through and where the difficulties arise. Excited to get started.

Hello everyone. I'm Amy and I live north of Seattle in Washington state in the U.S. I work online as a multisensory math specialist for a math intervention company, Made for Math. We provide multisensory math instruction for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and autism. Prior to joining Made for Math, I owned my own tutoring company and before that I taught fifth grade math and science.
I am very excited to join and learn more about dyscalculia and various strategies to help my students!

Hi - my name is Alex. I am from Dorset and am currently the SENCo in a middle school. I have been a dyslexia specialist for many years - both teaching and assessing. There seems to be an overwhelming shift in demand at the moment from literacy to numeracy support and I am spending a great deal of my time developing teaching programmes for pupils with numeracy weaknesses. Looking forward to developing my skills in this area!

Hi - my name is Andrea and I live in North Wiltshire. I spent many years as a SENCO working in Primary schools locally and, when working in school part-time set up a tuition business, eventually focussing on the tuition full time with my husband. Before Covid, students attended our centre in groups so I couldn't really focus on the individual intense type of work I wanted to do. Although we cut our customer base (and earnings!) down drastically a year ago by shutting our centres, I now work 1-1 with students (mainly aged 6-13 years), currently online and much prefer this work. Many of my students have literacy difficulties as I am a level 7 qualified teacher of students with dyslexia but I have a high percentage of students with numeracy difficulties. I am really looking forward to understanding their difficulties further and learning new techniques to help them.

I am now working as a specialist teacher in Lincolnshire, across a range of schools for the Local Authority, carrying out assessments and providing recommendations to schools. I am really looking forward to gaining a wealth of knowledge to enhance my ability to support people with barriers in Maths. ttfn :-)

Hi everyone, my name is Jen and I work in the same Local Authority team with Sally. I too have AMBDA and I also carry out assessments and recommendations. My area of 'expertise' is predominantly at secondary level, and before joining our current team of specialist teachers, I was a secondary school teacher (Psychology and PSHE) and a SENCo. I am looking forward to learning more about Maths, maths difficulties and how to help learners overcome these barriers.

Hello Everyone!
I'm Sally and live near Winchester, Hampshire. I qualified as a Primary School Teacher about 25 years ago and have a Diploma in SpLD (Dyslexia), plus a Level 7 APC / AMBDA. I have just left a Primary Independent School where I have been a Specialist Learning Support Teacher for the past 11 years supporting Maths and Literacy as well as teaching some class Music. I have taken the leap to set up by myself teaching and assessing and my aim is to top up my Level 7 so I can assess for Dyscalculia as well as Dyslexia.

Hi, My name is Lauren. I originally did my teaching degree in Johannesburg, South Africa. I then came to the UK where I gained QTS and have been teaching in primary schools in London for the last 15 years. I have always had a particular interest in helping children with maths difficulties. I am really excited to learn more and hopefully use it in my teaching as well as in my 1:1 tutoring sessions.
