After a couple of weeks off , the discussion points are back This one is for people who have been on the course for a little while. How has your teaching changed as a result of the course? Or what changes do you think you will be able to implement in the future?

It's definitely made me think more in depth with some of my children in terms of what they actually need to progress and understand. I have used many ideas from the course, especially Cuisenaire rods more often to help them understand and explain their thinking. The lesson plan books have been excellent to take bits from. The lessons that I have done with learner, I have used in my class too. I have had to make myself slow down as the pressure on teachers to blast through content is immense. I think it's hopefully making a difference to them too.

I am using Steve's dot patterns to represent numbers and I am using the 10s Dienes rods in those patterns to make it easier to reinforce the numbers. I have discovered the school's stash of Cuisenaire rods and am using them in my lessons. I have bought two pack for myself and I'm using them in my tutoring. I didn't know what to do with them before as we've never had training in them. I am looking forward to increasing my confidence in using them and other manipulatives in KS3, practising on my son first. I'm also starting to explore the two-coloured counters, which has become another favourite resource. I've nearly finished the Level 3 modules, so I have some more discovering to do in Level 5. Thank you for providing such a good quality, thought-provoking course.
