Hi.
Does anyone have any recommendations for an online program that would be suitable for practising and teaching the basics of Maths which needs little or no input from an adult?
A little background information - I have been tutoring a 12 year old dyslexic girl for around 5 months. She isn’t secure in her basic number facts and, when I began working with her she guessed any addition and subtraction with no idea of whether it was likely, etc. At school, she is ‘working‘ her way through a year 7 text book and getting 16% in end of year exams. Although her father has spoken to the school about the situation, they are not in a situation to do anything and seem unsure how to help her. Her father clearly wants to help her, does some number bonds games with her at home and recognises that she isn’t secure with them and is thinking about pulling her out of the Maths classes as she is learning nothing. He is very concerned that she is getting further and further behind and also worried that his daughter will not pass her GCSE and therefore unable to go to university in the future, etc.
I have been providing 30 minutes of tuition a week but we are going to increase this to an hour from next week but it is still not enough without other support/intervention.
This is why he is looking for additional support for something that his daughter could do which would help her with her understanding. If anyone does have any ideas/recommendations, etc that I could pass on, that would be great.
Thank you!

Hi Catherine I think you have had some recommendations on FB and I would recommend a very old and quite dated programme. Numbershark. I know it is old but I have had a lot of success with it across a wide range of ages in as much as the children can get on with it independently and they find it quite motivating. It is affordable as well. www.wordshark.co.uk/numbershark/You could also try Steve's Maths Explained videos. We have a discount for these as well www.mathsexplained.co.uk The discount code is dyscalcassoc Best wishes Judy

I remember Numbershark from when I was teaching. Unfortunately, the kids used to go out to use it so I never got to see it! It sounds like the type of program that could work very well and I have passed on the details to the father. He has also been doing some research and came across the following program - dybuster.com/en-gb/calcularis/. Has anyone heard of this or used it successfully with any of their students?
